CREATING HEALTHIER HABBITS

WEll....before I had brodey I was at the 9 month pregnancy weight from when I had Ethan and Halli. That means I was 25 pounds heavier than I was when I got pregnant with both of them. I thought I could only gain a few lbs this pregnancy and maybe even LOOSE weight after I had him! Well at my nine month pregnancy weight. I was
70 lbs....70 lbs!!! heavier than I was before kids. That is so unacceptable! Granted I am an emotional eater, and I have had a very emotional 7 years!! I know I have created some VERY bad habits for myself. I want to break the barrier. I have tried diet after diet, Work out after work out. And still the pounds cling...why?

I know why, My family eats HORRIBLE! We eat out all the time. Not only is it bad for us but very expensive. Also food choices in my home were not good either. And we always have a Trip to the gas station for a drink which turns into chips and twinkis and hot dogs...you get the point! I know I am not alone on this, so many families have this problem. But I have decided to be proactive.

I have never really been a health nut. My family loves food, but I decided to start cooking healthier, buying healthier things for my family and cutting some things out. One big thing for my family was fruit snacks! Those things are as bad as giving your kid candy! And mine would eat the whole box in one or two days. I have not bought fruit snacks for a while now and we really do not miss them. Also if I do not have the bad snacks in the house, we can not eat them. I really am trying to cut out soda and caffeine. And my FAVORITE thing that I have been doing is
cooking with pureed vegetables!

Amy S. got me the deceptively Delicious cookbook and I thought I would give it a try, and my kids love it. I am really amazed and feel so good about what I am giving them! they are loving the cauliflower scrambled eggs and sweet potato pancakes, and they never even notice when I put spinach in almost everything.check out her website at www.deceptivelydelicious.com I also switched to whole grain EVERYTHING not only bread but pasta and rice as well. I am choosing better in my shopping, And I really have seen a big difference. I am excited to be starting this now while my kids are young and don't really notice the impact and change, I am hoping it will stick and they will make healthier choices on their own.

So to date I have lost 35 lbs after having Brodey and I have 20 more to go. It is the 20 lbs I have been struggling with for 6 years! It has settled and does not want to move. But I am hoping with these changes it will have no choice. It is the little everyday things that I know I can stick with,(not fad diets) that will make the difference. If any of you are interested, my friend Sheree just started a new blog. called hundredhealthydinners.blogspot she is in my places worth visiting. Her story is a lot like mine, because I think a lot of us have this problem and her recipes are great and she is a total inspiration to me. So you should check it out.

Here's to a Healthier, happy family! :0)

I am so with you on this! After Carter got his first cavity, I banned the fruit snacks from our house :)! The boys don't even ask for them when we are shopping!

Good luck! It sounds like you are on the right track!

What a great goal! Our kids love homemade wheat bread and fruit because I've always insisted on it. Other kids won't eat either of them when they come to our house. But we definitely have a lot of improvements to make! Fruit snacks and sugar cereals etc. You've inspired me to try harder. Ben has fruit snacks in his lunch every day! Funny huh.

I got your post. I totally remember that conversation! After that I bought several cans of chicken for food storage, thanks to you, and I haven't used ANY of it. That's so funny, it's probably gross by now. I'll have to start using it sometimes so I can store it and actually eat it! Thanks for remembering that!

You are so good and such an inspiration. I too need to get this baby weight off. That book is definitely a great one. It really helps slipping in "stuff" whenever you can. I also buy things that say "light" or low calorie and not tell scott. Being sneaky is the best thing. You're doing great... keep it up. You look great too! Congrats on the weight loss.

I haven't checked in for awhile, your new background looks so cute!

I bought that book too! She has really great recipes that aren't time consuming or call for random ingredients.
Congrats on the weight you've lost! I know how that goes! I'm still working on my last 20 too!

I have that book, too. My boys liked the rice balls. It's hard to break those snacking habits. It's something that I struggle with, too. I find that if I keep fruit out in a big basket that I'll be more prone to snack on that vs. a quick, easy fatty snack. Congrats on the losting the 35 pounds!

When my husband and I were nursery teachers, the snack lady told me that she put fruit snacks in the bins because they were fruit. FRUIT!

Hunny and I ended up bringing the snacks for our class each week (after clearing it with each kid's parents first, of course). Those kids loved having apples, bananas, raisins, oranges, pears, carrots, and, yes, even BROCCOLI in class!

Keri,
You are doing great--so close to your goal! That is awesome.

I am going to buy that book, it sounds perfect. I am always looking for some new ideas to keep it fun.

I'm so glad you liked the new blog, I started it for me so I could feel motivated to try new healthy recipes and have pictures, and nutritional info for all my recipes. I am glad someone else liked it too.
